Will You Forgive Them? WHO Finally Ends COVID-19 Emergency Status, Urges For Lessons To Be Remembered Following Mass Lockdowns

On Friday, May 5th, the World Health Organization officially ended the global emergency status for COVID-19 after more than three years since the original declaration. WHO said that individual countries will now be responsible for managing the virus along with all other infectious diseases.

The agency’s Emergency Committee met on Thursday and recommended that the UN organization declare an end to the crisis, per Reuters. COVID-19 is no longer going to be considered a “public health emergency of international concern,” which is its highest alert level. The alert has been active since January 30th of 2020.

WHO Director-General Tedres Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “It is therefore with great hope that I declare COVID-19 over as a global health emergency.” The announcement was made on a conference call with members of the press in attendance. During the call, the WHO urged countries to remember what was learned during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to WHO data, the virus, which peaked at over 100,000 people killed a week in January of 2021, has now fallen to just over 3,500 per week as of April 24th. The WHO accredits this to widespread vaccination and better treatments. Higher levels of population immunity from previous infections also play into the numbers.  The WHO is still warning of future viruses like COVID-19 arising, with emergencies director Michael Ryan stating “The battle is not over. We still have weaknesses and those weaknesses that we still have in our system will be exposed by this virus or another virus. And it needs to be fixed.”

Of course, the United States and many other countries have already long been done with the pandemic. The United States officially ended its pandemic period last month, per Politico

The entire pandemic affected different people and populations vastly differently, and as the WHO urged, it’s important to remember the lessons that we’ve learned from it.

Those lessons are that the government is willing to force you to stay in your home, watch your loved ones die from a distance, and then have people ask for camps for people who haven’t followed the set line of protocols. People will harass you if you don’t wear a mask in public, even after getting vaccinated.

The ultimate lesson that we should be walking away with is not one of how to handle a global pandemic, but the understanding of the lengths the government will force you to go to comply with an unjust rule set.

It was equally as appalling to see people on social media rally behind the idea of locking people into quarantine camps if they don’t comply with the same ideas as them. So, the lesson to walk away with is, yes, be careful and do everything you can to ensure you and your family's safety. But also make sure to remember people are willing to take you away and lock you up if you don’t comply with their exact demands.
