WATCH: Over 1,000 Migrants Swarm New York City Hall Demanding Work Permits, More Aid

On Tuesday, thousands of migrants descended upon New York City Hall to demand more aid and work permits after an advocacy group falsely advertised that if migrants, many of whom are from the West African country of Guinea, showed up to a hearing on by the City Council's Committee of Immigration and Committee on Hospitals about the conditions of African migrants in shelters.

Only 250 of the migrants, many of whom do not speak English, were allowed into the hearing. Many of the migrants reportedly were upset about being moved from luxury hotels to migrant shelters in other areas of the city. The migrants also complained about getting kicked out of shelters or being unable to find a job. Nearly every person seen outside of the hearing were young men.

The hearing, hosted by city councilwoman Alexa Avilés, was held to "understand how the [Adams] Administration is addressing language access barriers, cultural competency challenges, health needs, and other roadblocks" of African migrants.

"Find solutions for all African community," one of the migrants said, per CBS News. "They're young guys. They're 19 or 20 years old, so they're ready to work. But we need to get better conditions for these guys."

"I'm very upset about it, because I was not thinking it would be this way. lack of shelter. Lack of many things. Lack of jobs," commented another.
