Trump DOMINATES New Poll Even With Indictment Charges, Shows No Signs Of Slowing Down

A new poll for the Republican primaries gives 45th President Donald Trump his most significant competitive edge so far, sitting a massive 38 percent ahead of the second play Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL). The poll also asked numerous questions about the recent indictment of Trump, showing overwhelming support in favor of him.

The latest survey came from CBS News and asked 1,798 potential voters who they would support for the GOP primaries. The poll showed overwhelming support for the New York businessman, who sits at 61 percent support for the nomination. Second placing DeSantis could only muster 23 percent support, a significant drop from the golden placement.

Other nominees also garnered some support, with former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN) and Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) each getting four percent. Former Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC) was able to pull out three percent and then many other candidates were sitting low at only one percent.

Trump seems to have the support of voters as a large majority of the potential voters believe that the recent indictment of the former president was clearly politically motivated, with 76 percent saying so. In contrast, only 12 percent said that the documents in his possession posed a risk to national security and 12 percent claimed that both were true.

Voters seem utterly unperturbed by the indictment, with a 61 percent having no change in their view of Trump following the recent 37-count indictment. For some. the indictment only made them support Trump more, with 14 percent saying that it made them see Trump “for the better.” In comparison, only 7 percent said that the indictment caused them to view him “for the worse” and 18 percent said it “depends” on how the situation plays out.

The massive backing of Trump continues to show as the poll also revealed 80 percent of the potential voters believe that the former president should be able to return to office even if he were to be convicted. Only 20 percent saw this as a hindrance to his ability to come into the Oval Office.

The poll also took time to ask more general questions away from the Trump indictment, seeing what GOP primary voters want to see out of a Republican nominee. The biggest concern seemed to be lowering inflation, with 90 percent saying that this was a “very important” issue to be addressed. Another major issue is lowering taxes with 78 percent saying they wanted the nominee to have a plan to do so.

More minor issues for Republican voters seem to be an abortion ban and limiting transgenderism in the United States, with only 29 percent and 26 percent respectively, saying it was 'very important.'

It’s clear Trump still possessed tremendous support within the Republican party with such massive backing even through his most recent indictment charges. It seems no matter what the Biden administration does to attempt to interfere with the election, the cult of personality around Donald J. Trump shows no signs of slowing down.
