'He Needs To Decide': Top Democrat Strategist Turns On Biden After Devastating Poll

The top Democrat strategist who led former President Barack Obama to victory in 2008, David Axelrod, suggested on Sunday that President Joe Biden should not run for a second term in the White House after a devastating poll from the New York Times confirmed Democrats' worst fears.

On Sunday, the New York Times released poll results from the various swing states across the country, and five out of six of them showed 45th President Donald Trump leading Biden. According to the poll, Trump leads Biden in Nevada by 10, in Georgia by six, in Arizona by five, in Michigan by five, and in Pennsylvania by four. Biden only leads Trump in Wisconsin by two.

"It's very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden's team says his resolve to run is firm," the Democrat campaign consultant wrote on X/Twitter. "He's defied CW before but this will send tremors of doubt thru the party--not 'bed-wetting,' but legitimate concern."

He went on to explain that Biden is proud of what he has accomplished during his term and that "Trump is a dangerous, unhinged demagogue whose brazen disdain for the rules, norms, laws and institutions or democracy should be disqualifying." Given that, from his view, Trump represents those characteristics, Axelrod believes that a "miscalculation" is "too dramatic to ignore."

"Only [Joe Biden] can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party," he wrote. "What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it's in HIS best interest or the country's?"

The former Obama strategist went on to explain that Biden's biggest liability in 2024 is his age. At 80 years old, Biden is the oldest president the nation has ever had, and by the beginning of a second term, he will be 82. By the end of a potential eight years in office, Biden would be 86 by January 2029.

"The greatest concern is that his biggest liability is the one thing he can't change," he explained. "Among all the unpredictables, there is one thing that is sure: the age arrow only points in one direction."

Time is running out for Democrats looking to replace Biden. So far, the only Democrat willing to challenge him has been Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who announced his primary challenge last month. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who switched from running as a Democrat to an independent last month, also attempted to challenge Biden, but the Democratic National Committee (DNC) repeatedly sabotaged him throughout the entire process. Perhaps by next year, the DNC will have regretted dissuading potential candidates from entering the race as Biden's age and incompetence catches up to him.
