On Friday, Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) signed legislation that will legally block transgender children from receiving any gender-altering care such as puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy. The law is set to go into effect on September 1st.
The bill joins the likes of more than 20 other states in banning such life-altering procedures from being accessible to minors, per Reuters.
The measure, Senate Bill 14, bans any “gender transitioning or gender reassignment procedures and treatments to certain children,” listing off several different medical procedures that would fall under this curtain. The bill does provide exceptions for when these sorts of procedures are medically necessary and not from the brain of a delusional parent trying to use their child as a virtue signal.
The legislation also permits children who have already been taking the treatments to have time to “wean off the prescription drug” rather than having to outright stop, which could cause negative effects.
How long this bill will remain in place is yet to be seen though, with many organizations already intending to fight the bill in court. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) released a statement back when the bill was first passed through the state legislature their intent to fight the measure in court, writing, “We will be filing a lawsuit to protect transgender youth in Texas from being stripped of access to health care that keeps them healthy and alive.”
The statement also claims, “Medically necessary health care is a critical part of helping transgender adolescents succeed in school, establish healthy relationships with their friends and family, and live authentically as themselves. We will defend the rights of transgender youth in court, just as we have done in other states engaging in this anti-science and discriminatory fear-mongering.”
The organization believes there to be an “overwhelming body of scientific and medical evidence” to support the transitioning of minors and cites other states where the legislation was challenged in the courts such as Alabama and Montana.
The signing of the bill shows major steps for the future of Texas children being protected from the woke plague. With such a large population as the state of Texas, there are naturally many people who identify as transgender so it was inevitable that the bill would be challenged, but hopefully, the courts will see the legality and necessity to have such a measure in place.
