On Friday, several Republican senators banded together to hold the Biden administration accountable for the lawfare campaign against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump following his conviction on Thursday. The senators, Mike Lee (R-UT), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Rick Scott (R-FL), Roger Marshall (R-KS), and Marco Rubio (R-FL), wrote in an open letter that they would not fund any appropriations bills, not approve Biden's judicial nominees, and not expedite Democrat priorities in the upper chamber.
"The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally altered our politics in un-American ways," the senators wrote. "As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart."
"To that end, we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare; 2) vote to confirm this administration's political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democrat legislation or authorities that are not directly relevant to the safety of the American people."
As previously reported by the DC Enquier, the jury found Trump guilty on each of the 34 counts of falsifying business records. Following the verdict, Trump told the press that he would continue to fight in the courts to achieve justice and continued to say that the trial against him was election interference. Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's sentencing hearing for July 11th, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
"Strongly worded statements are not enough. Those who turned our judicial system into a political cudgel must be held accountable," Sen. Lee wrote. "We are no longer cooperating with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations, and we invite all concerned Senators to join our stand."
"Statements of outrage are no longer enough," Sen. Rubio wrote. "So I hope every Republican Senator who is sickened by what the deranged left is doing to our country will join us in taking action in the Senate."
"The White House’s weaponization of our government to target President Trump for political gain represents the pinnacle of two tiers of justice," wrote Sen. Blackburn. "We cannot allow this grave injustice to prevail in the United States of America. My Republican colleagues & I are taking a stand."
