Senator Fetterman Claims That Congress Doesn't Have The 'Best And Brightest'

The 'best and brightest' Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) criticized his fellow members of Congress Wednesday night, claiming that the country is failing to send its “best and brightest” to serve in the legislative branch of the country.

The Pennsylvanian Democrat appeared on ‘The Late Show’ with host Stephen Colbert where he explained, “You all need to know that America is not sending their best and brightest to Washington D.C.. Sometimes you literally just can’t believe these people are making the decisions that are determining the government here. It’s actually scary.”

He made his claims after being asked a question by the late-night host if it was “awkward” to face a fellow member of Congress after he posted a derogatory meme about him.

Now, while his comments are not entirely wrong as many feel that their lawmakers are becoming more and more disconnected from the average American, the irony comes from the fact that Fetterman himself embodies the very incapability that he speaks of.

He has famously fumbled his words into completely incomprehensible sentences on multiple occasions while serving on subcommittees after spending months in a hospital, per the DC Enquirer

There have also been numerous questions on whether or not the elected official can fulfill his position with many previously calling for his resignation after his long tenure in the hospital, as previously covered by the DC Enquirer. Since then, calls for his leave have continued to persist throughout his numerous disappointing blunders.

Fetterman also caught notable flack for his continued violation of the Senate dress code that caused Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to relax it just for him. This move was eventually reversed in a bipartisan vote to formalize the dress code. The Pennsylvanian frequently sported a simple hoodie and gym shorts to the Capitol Building, even going so far as mocking those who criticized the relaxing of the dress code, per the DC Enquirer

With such an abhorrent track record for a public official, Fetterman's move to go on national television and claim that others aren’t the “best and brightest” comes off as not just brazen but ignorant. Perhaps if he wishes to see the exact incapable elected officials he joked about, he should begin by looking at the man in the mirror.
