Ohio Father Cleared of Charges After Shooting Thug Who Tried to Harm His Daughter, Break Into His Home

A recent video of a 22-year-old ex-boyfriend attempting to barge his way into the home of his former girlfriend has gained attention recently as the woman’s father opened fire on the man, killing him.

The homeowner, Mitchell Duckro, has recently been cleared of charges following the defense of his home under Ohio’s “Castle Doctrine” and “Stand Your Ground” law given that the 22-year-old James Rayl was attempting to barge into the home to harm Duckro’s daughter, Allyson Duckro, who broke up with the man over a year and a half before the incident.

Rayl, who had left a voicemail for Allyson the night before, showed up at the Duckro residence at 11 a.m. and began ringing the doorbell which activated the Ring camera system, according to Fox News.

The ex-boyfriend is seen repeatedly ringing the doorbell. He proceeded to open the screen door when the father tells him to leave and stated, “I’ve got a gun.” Despite this, Rayl attempted to ram the door down with his body which proceeded to break the deadbolt and open the door a few inches.

In response, Duckro opened fire, striking Rayl three times in both shoulders and the back before he collapses on his way to the driveway.

In the call to local police, Allyson is heard saying, “Dad, there’s nothing you could have done, you saved my life.”

After the shooting, Jeffrey Hereford, a next-door neighbor, is seen walking to the home and stating, “Don’t shoot me.” He then said, “He ain’t got no gun” upon coming across Rayl’s body.

Following a review of the evidence, which included the 911 call, the Ring doorbell video, and voicemail left by Rayl, a grand jury decided not to indict Duckro given Ohio’s pro-self-defense laws that allowed him to use lethal force when threatened.

If it hadn’t been for the ability for Duckro to have a weapon and defend his family, who knows what would have happened to his daughter had the 22-year-old been able to break into the home. Luckily, Ohioans value self-defense.
