'That Is Not Healthcare, That Is Mutilation': Ron DeSantis SLAMS Media For Peddling Sex Reassignment Surgeries

On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) railed against the media after they repeatedly described transgender surgeries with euphemisms as opposed to calling it as it is.

In a press conference held by DeSantis, he talked about the immense success he and his administration achieved during their most recent legislative session, per Fox News. During the discussion, DeSantis brought up SB 254, a bill that has passed the Florida House that bans sex reassignment surgery for minors.

A reporter asked DeSantis about “culture issues” and what he would do if American voters wanted transgender surgeries for minors to be allowed. In response to this, DeSantis cut off the reporter and questioned whether people were being paid to bring up the topic of transgender children.

DeSantis then proceeded to bash the entire movement, stating “When we’re standing up against that, we’re protecting these kids.” DeSantis went further, attacking defenders of the procedure, saying that members of the press “dress it up with euphemism, and they’ll say it’s ‘healthcare’ to cut off the private parts of a 14 or 15-year-old. That is not healthcare, that is mutilation.” DeSantis also warned of the long-term effects the surgery has, and how the decision lasts a lifetime. “It’s like the biggest regret of their life, they feel like they were manipulated. I understand that there’s some physicians that are very ideological about it, but the fact is, people go through a lot when they’re teenagers. You grow out of it most of the time in these situations, 80-90 percent resolves by the time you get there.”

The Florida governor then brought up the hypocrisy of activists who are angered at the banning of sex-changing surgeries. DeSantis asked why activists were “upset about the death penalty for raping the minors under 12, why are you upset about that. Is that really the hill you want to die on?”

The entire argument around sex-change surgeries for minors is bizarre and is undoubtedly hidden by subtle messaging to cover up its despicable nature. When minors can’t drink, can’t smoke, can’t buy paint, and can’t rent a car, why should they ever be given the power to make life-altering physical modifications to their body that can never be undone?

DeSantis’ comments bring up a particularly concerning part of the debate, that being the way the left attempts to hide what they do behind soft, kind works like ‘gender therapy’ and ‘gender-affirming care.’ When you discuss what they are really doing to children, it becomes a far more black-and-white scenario that is utterly appalling.
