On Thursday, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) tore into the recent controversy surrounding Jason Aldean’s song ‘Try That in a Small Town,’ saying that the United States is “off the rocker” for attempting to cancel the song.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the song from the country music singer about how things that take place in large cities would not be able to work in a small town garnered immense criticism from the left. Many claimed that the song pushed a racist agenda and also attacked Aldean for choosing to film the music video at a place where a lynching took place in 1917.
The initial wave of hate towards the country music star was so bad that he had to take to his Twitter to share with his followers a clarification of the song's intent.
“In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests,” the Twitter post read. “These references are not only meritless, but dangerous. There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.”

Since the controversy began the song has managed to soar to the number one spot on iTunes with the YouTube video seeing immense success as well, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer.
“We need to restore sanity to this country. I mean, what is going on that that would be something that would be censored? Give me a break,” the Sunshine State governor said on ‘Fox & Friends.’ “We're off the rocker here in the United States with a lot of this stuff, with cancel culture, with big tech censorship, with a lot of stuff that the federal government's doing, policing so-called misinformation. We need to get back on kilter and start having a free society again and embracing truth. So I think it's part and parcel of a lot of the nonsense we've seen over the last many years.”
DeSantis isn’t the only presidential candidate to come out in support of the song with former President Donald Trump writing on his Truth Social account, “Jason Aldean is a fantastic guy who just came out with a great new song. Support Jason all the way. MAGA!!!”

Conservatives have made it clear that if any given individual is unjustly attacked by the left that they are more than willing to back up whoever they need to. There’s a notable difference between what the left and right draw their lines at with liberals drawing invisible lines on things that make little to no sense while conservatives boycott those who directly attack their values.
