President Trump Lays Out Plan To 'Let Our Country HEAL' Following Hur's Refusal To Bring Charges Against Biden

On Thursday, special counsel Robert Hur released his final report following an extensive investigation into President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents. Hur concluded that the Department of Justice would bring no charges against Biden or members of his staff. Hur's decision to not bring charges against the president led President Trump to demand that the Department of Justice drop the charges against him in his own classified documents case brought by special counsel Jack Smith.

"We conclude that no criminal charges are warranted in this matter. We would conclude the same even if there was no policy against charging a sitting president," the special counsel's report explains. "Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified information after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen."

Special counsel Robert Hur was appointed to investigate the president in January 2023 after classified documents were found in the president's home, in his office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, and in other locations. The discovery of classified documents at Biden's residence and office came at the same time that federal authorities raided 45th President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort for classified documents.

Biden's lawyers initially found ten classified documents in late November in Biden's Penn Biden Center office that originated from his days as vice president in the Obama administration. A later sweep of Biden's home in Wilmington, Delaware, the following month found a number of documents in his garage. In both cases, White House lawyers were quickly dispatched to the scene, and the National Archives and Records Administration, the agency tasked with protecting classified materials, was contacted.

In response to special counsel Hur's report, 45th President Trump demanded that the Department of Justice drop the case against him. "They should immediately drop the case against me," Trump told Fox News. "I am covered by the Presidential Records Act — he wasn't. He had many, many times more documents — totally unguarded. Mine were always surrounded by Secret Service and in locked rooms."

Trump also took to Truth Social to express his thoughts on the report, writing, "VERY UNFAIR. THIS NONSENSE MUST END!!!" The former president also suggested that the Department of Justice drop all charges him, like they did with Biden, to allow the country to heal. "If Special Counsel Jack Smith wants to do good for our Country, and help to unify it, he should drop all Litigation against Joe Biden's Political Opponent, ME, and let our Country HEAL," Trump wrote. "This would be a far bigger and better achievement than anything he has ever done, and will be easy for the Great Patriots of our Country to understand in light of Special Counsel Robert Hur's Document Report on Joe Biden, where the evidence is overwhelming that he 'willfully retained' important documents!"
