Director's Son Of Original 1937 'Snow White' BLASTS Woke Remake – Walt Disney And My Father Are 'Turning In Their Graves'

The son of the director of the original 1937 ‘Snow White,’ David Hand, lamented about the disrespect that lead actress Rachel Zegler has shown to the animated classic, saying that she and Disney have “no respect” for the original film that Walt Disney and his father made. 

Hand spoke with The Telegraph where he voiced his frustration with the new “woke” direction that the 2024 movie would be taking. He said that it was “a whole different concept” that he disagrees with, adding that he knows “[his] dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it.”

“They change the stories, they change the thought process of the characters … they’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that,” he said. “I find it quite frankly a bit insulting [what] they may have done with some of these classic films … There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did … I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.”

The son of the director called the move a “disgrace” by the studio to force their “radical” thoughts into “something that was such a great success earlier.” 

Changes that will be made to the movie from the original include replacing the original seven dwarves with “seven magical creatures,” a move that has garnered massive amounts of scrutiny from fans and critics alike. The movie also intends to ditch the romance-centric plot of the original and instead focus on the lead “becoming the leader [Snow White] knows she can be,” per the DC Enquirer.

Zegler has also had numerous criticisms for the original movie, calling aspects of it “creepy” or “weird” and claiming that the plot of the movie has aged poorly. She claimed the original was “extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world” in an interview with Vanity Fair. 

Hand is far from the first person to be extremely disappointed with the new film but having such an attachment to the original with his father’s pivotal role makes his lamenting more influential than others. Of course, much of what he said was already known by anyone who has half a brain, but the confirmation from the son of the director sets in stone the fact that the ‘Snow White’ remake is not a product like the original. It is simply a cruel mockery of the original that wishes to use its name and likeness for a quick cash grab.
