On Tuesday, 45th President and leading 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump took to his top-rated social media platform, Truth Social, to announce he’s inviting the now famous Rushingbrook Children’s Choir to sing the national anthem at an upcoming South Carolina campaign rally.
The Rushingbrook Children’s Choir, from Greenville, South Carolina, went viral in a video singing the national anthem in the U.S. Capital and being stopped by a Capitol Police officer.
“Well I just want to say hello and pay my respects to a very talented group of people - The Rushingbrook Children’s Choir,” Trump said from his beautiful and elegant office from his Palm Beach, Florida home and beach club, Mar-A-Lago.
“I heard about what happened at the capital and that’s a shame. Really it’s a serious thing to have an event like that. Such a beautiful time in your lives. It’s such an important time in your lives to be interrupted in such a way,” Trump added.
“But we are going to have you in South Carolina and you’re going to sing at a rally for us in front of tens of thousands of people. And we’re all going to have a great time together. We love our country,” Trump continued.
“We’re going to take care of our country and we’re going to pay respect to those people that love it. And nobody loves it more than you. So Rushingbrook, remember. South Carolina at our first rally,” Trump said.
“It will be announced soon and you’re going to be there. And thank you for everything and thank you for loving America,” Trump finished.
At first, Capital Police doubled down on preventing the choir from singing the national anthem, issuing a statement claiming they thought the group didn’t have permission to perform in the building.
After facing a massive backlash, they corrected their statement and explained they “were not aware that the Speaker’s Office had approved this performance.”
"I was shocked, I was dismayed, I was stunned. I couldn’t believe that was happening, that they would stop the national anthem, of all songs,” Choir director David Rasbach, who was approved by the office of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, told the Daily Signal.
"We recently learned that schoolchildren from South Carolina were interrupted while singing our National Anthem at the Capitol,” McCarthy and three other Republican members of Congress wrote in a joint statement.
“These children were welcomed by the Speaker’s Office to joyfully express their love of this nation while visiting the Capitol, and we are all very disappointed to learn their celebration was cut short," they added.
"We are delighted that the People’s House has been reopened particularly for our children and we look forward to welcoming more Americans back to the halls of Congress,” the statement reads.
