Machete-Wielding Man Killed By Sheriff Deputies In California

On Tuesday, a machete-wielding man was shot and killed by Los Angeles deputies outside of an Albertsons grocery store in Lancaster, California, after charging at officers.

Authorities responded to the store around 9:30 AM after getting a 911 distress call from concerned customers about the suspect walking around outside the store with machetes in both hands. The store, located north of Los Angeles at the 43500 block of 20th Street West in the suburb of Lancaster, was quickly surrounded by officers.

The man then went into the store while deputies pursued him. The deputies attempted to calm down the suspect, but the machete-wielding madman instead charged at the officers. Three law enforcement personnel then opened fire on the suspect, who was described as a white male in his late 30s. He was quickly taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told Fox 11 Los Angeles that the officers attempted to use non-lethal options before opening fire. "They were talking to him, even used tasers," one witness said. Local business owners in the area explained that the man had been seen in the area before the shooting. According to Fox News, the sheriff's office said that the machete-wielding suspect had stabbed a gas station employee earlier in the day. The employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the shooting, officers quickly cordoned off the man's vehicle, which was in the parking lot, and inspected it to ensure it was safe. No civilians or deputies were injured during the shooting.
