WATCH: Liz Cheney Says She'll Support Ted Cruz Challenger, Reveals Former Vice President Dick Cheney's Choice For President

During the Texas Tribune Fest in Austin, Texas, on Friday, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and outspoken Trump critic revealed that she would be supporting Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX) in his effort to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in November. The former Republican legislator also revealed that her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, would be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election. Cheney's comments come after she officially endorsed Harris earlier this week.

"Specifically though, here in Texas, you guys do have a tremendous, serious candidate running for United States Senate," Cheney said. "It's not Ted Cruz. But Colin Allred is somebody that I served with in the House and somebody who really, when you think about the kind of leaders our country needs and going to this point about you, might not agree on every policy position, but we need people who are going to serve in good faith. We need people who are honorable public servants. So I'll be working on his behalf." In every recent poll of the Lone Star State, Sen. Cruz has maintained a sizeable lead against the Democrat challenger as Allred runs a low-profile campaign to unseat the popular Republican.

In addition to throwing her support behind the Democrat in the Senate race, Cheney also revealed that her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, would be backing the Harris-Walz ticket in November. The decision of the Cheney family, which has fallen in prominence in the Trump-led GOP in recent years, to back Harris is no surprise, given their hatred of Donald Trump. During her 2022 re-election campaign in Wyoming, Vice President Dick Cheney recorded a campaign ad calling Trump a "coward."

"In our nation's 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump," George W. Bush's vice president said. "He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He is a coward. A real man wouldn't lie to his supporters. He lost his election, and he lost big. I know it. He knows it, and deep down, I think most Republicans know."

Despite her father's intervention in the campaign, Liz Cheney lost the Wyoming Republican primary to Maggie Hageman (R-WY) by a wide margin. Cheney, after being openly hostile to President Trump as a leading member of the January 6 Select Committee, only secured 28.9 percent support compared to Hageman's 66.3 percent.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Cheney revealed that she would be voting for Harris during an event at the Duke School of Public Policy on Wednesday. "I think it is crucially important for people to recognize, not only is what I just said about the danger that Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don't believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates' names, particularly in swing states," Cheney said. "And as a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris."

In response to Cheney's endorsement of the Harris-Walz ticket, a Harris spokeswoman told MSNBC, "We were very excited see Liz Cheney, a very important voice among conservatives, come out and say she is supporting Vice President Harris."
