John Cleese REFUSES To Remove Hilarious Transgender Scene From 'Life Of Brian' Stage Play – 'I Have, Of Course, No Intention Of Doing So'

Legendary comedy actor and producer John Cleese slapped down the rumors of removing the transgender ‘Loretta’ scene from the hit movie Monty Python’s Life of Brian from the stage adaptation of the film, stating he had “no intention of doing so.”

The scene features a discussion between the main characters of the movie and the oppression they face from the Roman government. One of the characters eventually reveals they wish to become a woman named Loretta because they want children, stating they can because, “It’s every man’s right to have babies if he wants them.”

The main character points out that even if they wish to be a woman, they couldn’t have babies as they lack a womb. The characters then brainstorm and decide that they will fight for the right to have babies despite not being able to.  Cleese took to his Twitter to make his statement, writing in a two-part tweet. The first tweet discussed misreporting, writing, “A recent example of this misreporting! A few days ago I spoke to an audience outside London. I told them I was adapting the Life of Brian so that we could do it as a stage show ( NOT a musical ). I said that we'd had a table-reading of the latest draft in NYC a year ago...(tbc)”
“..and that all the actors - several of them Tony winners - had advised me strongly to cut the Loretta scene. I have, of course, no intention of doing so. So someone in the audience had called a journalist and misreported me. Amazingly none of the British media called to check,” he finished in his second tweet.

The response from Cleese seems to be based on a Daily Mail article where the actor had discussed the reaction from American actors to the script for the stage adaptation.

“'At the end, I said to the American actors: 'What do you think?' And they said: 'We love the script, but you can't do that stuff about Loretta nowadays.,'” the British actor said about the response to the read-through of the script.

“'So here you have something there's never been a complaint about in 40 years, that I've heard of, and now all of a sudden we can't do it because it'll offend people,” the article continued. “What is one supposed to make of that? But I think there were a lot of things that were actually, in some strange way, predictive of what was actually going to happen later.'”

It’s clear why leftists wouldn’t want the scene in the stage play as it so clearly dissects the idiocracies of modern leftism and transgenderism. Somehow the very acts of comedy decades ago have become the sad reality of modern times.
