'I'm Proud Of You Now, You Old Fart!': Crowd Cheers After Trump Supporter Encourages President Joe Biden To Wear Trump 2024 Hat During 9/11 Event

During a visit to a volunteer fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, President Joe Biden was encouraged by a Trump supporter to put on a "Trump 2024" hat, leading those in attendance to cheer on the display. The owner of the Trump hat handed the 81-year-old president that campaign headwear and encouraged the president to put it on.

"There it is," the owner of the Trump hat said when Biden put it on. "I'm proud of you now, you old fart!"

The bizarre moment came after President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, President Trump, and Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) attended the 9/11 remembrance memorial in New York on Wednesday morning. During the solemn event at Ground Zero, Trump briefly shook hands and exchanged some words with Harris.

Biden and Harris then left to lay a wreath at the memorial for Flight 93 in Shanksville and meet with families when President Biden decided to put on the Trump hat to allegedly show unity after he gave one of his own hats to a Trump supporter. Video and photos of the moment quickly went viral online, with Trump War Room writing on X, "Kamala did so bad in last night's debate, Joe Biden just put on a Trump hat."

"Ok, who had "Biden wears a Trump 2024 hat" on their bingo card?" the X account End Wokeness wrote. "The amazing First Responders in Shanksville, PA, demanded Biden wear a Trump hat! Let's #MakeAmericaGreatAgain," Eric Trump posted in response to the viral video.

In response to the bizarre moment, the White House explained that Biden only wore the hat briefly to show unity on the 9/11 anniversary. "At the Shanksville Fire Station, [President Biden] spoke about the country's bipartisan unity after 9/11 and said we needed to get back to that," White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates wrote on X. "As a gesture, he gave a hat to a Trump supporter who then said that in the same spirit, POTUS should put on his Trump cap. He briefly wore it." Reporters were not invited into the room as President Biden and Vice President Harris met with the 9/11 families on the solemn day of remembrance.

While the White House claims that President Biden put on the hat to show unity, one would think that a younger Biden would have recognized the electoral damage the display could do to Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign. Having your boss wear your political opponent's memorabilia isn't a good look the day after a presidential debate.
