Huge Win For Parents! Georgia Follows Florida And Passes The “Parent’s Bill of Rights”

As school board races and discussions surrounding education heat up around the country, Republican states have hurried to write legislation to protect the rights of parents in their states. In Georgia, the legislature passed a bill called the “Parent’s Bill of Rights” and it is expected to be signed into law by the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp. 

The legislation is expected to be signed by the governor, due to his advocacy for parental rights and his positive messaging about the bill. Back in February, Kemp released a statement advocating for the “Parents Bill of Rights” which was being drafted in the legislature, saying “At a time when our nation is more divided than ever, we’re leading the fight to ensure parents do not have any barriers which prevent them from playing an active role in their child’s education.”

The bill covers a magnitude of different issues spanning from the rights of parents to look at school records regarding their child, to a parent’s right to look over instructional materials being used in the classroom. All of this sounds like basic stuff, but parents are glad to have it written considering the ongoing insanity happening in this country. 

The bill clearly lays out the fact that it is the job of parents to raise children and ultimately educate them in a plethora of ways, not the school. This bill seeks to reinforce this idea and protect the rights of parents from being infringed upon by public schools. In the bill, it is written, “The General Assembly finds that it is a fundamental right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their minor children.” 

According to the bill, schools will be required to show parents all records relating to their children upon request. This includes grade reports, attendance records, and anything else that is not distinctly prohibited by law. It also acknowledges the parental right to remove students from sex education discussions as well as review the instructional materials being used in classrooms. 

Georgia is following other red states in an effort to protect parental rights amidst the current hysteria over public schools, parental rights, critical race theory, and sex education. Hopefully, the bill will be passed quickly.
