Hollywood star Gary Sinise announced in a Friday interview with Newsmax that he and his organization — the “Gary Sinise Foundation” — will donate 2,500 meals to 2020 first responders in honor of the twenty-first anniversary of 9/11.
“On September 13-15, we’re going to be serving 2,500 meals to about 220 different stations across New York City, as part of our Gary Sinise Foundation’s Serving Heroes program. to honor the men and women who were lost on that terrible day and to salute and pay tribute to those who go out each and every day to protect our cities. And God bless them all.”
Sinise remarked that he and his foundation are “here to lift spirits, we’re here to celebrate, we’re here to support, in whatever way we can, our veterans and first responders.”
Sinise also reflected on 9/11 and how it pushed him toward a life of service:
“Each year, it is a significant anniversary. It is something I will never forget, like so many in this country, ” the actor said.
“That day really turned me towards service in a very, very active way, in trying to do what I can for first responders, veterans, gold star families, our wounded, those who protect and defend us. And I’ll never forget the images, I’ll never forget what it was like to get that phone call from a buddy of mine in New York, telling me to turn on the television, like so many of us got those phone calls that day. And since then, I’ve met just so many 9/11 family members, first responders who lost loved ones, lost friends.”
9/11 changed our country. It was an unspeakable tragedy, but a tragedy that gave Americans an opportunity to rally around the flag like never before. We supported our troops, grieved with the afflicted, and most of all, we invoked God for support in a time of trouble.
21 years later, we continue to memorialize those lost, and we celebrate the many heroes who emerged following that fateful day. America will never forget, nor should she, what happened on September 11th, 2001.
