On Sunday, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to call on Republicans in Congress to skip the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden and simply impeach him, pointing to the former vice president being “bribed” and the two times that he himself was impeached during his presidency.
As previously covered by the DC Enquirer, many different congressional Republicans, specifically in the House, have been floating the potential of an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. So far, nothing has come of the idea but has instead seemingly been used simply as a threat to the president to back off on the ongoing House Oversight Committee investigation.
Over the summer, the idea has been dropped numerous times but months after Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said there would be an impeachment inquiry into Biden if allegations were revealed to be true, most of which have been, nothing has occurred, per the DC Enquirer. Such idleness is nothing new for Congress, a group that is infamous for its inaction but former President Trump is having none of it.
“The Republicans in Congress, though well meaning, keep talking about an Impeachment ‘Inquiry’ on Crooked Joe Biden,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Look, the guy got bribed, he paid people off, and he wouldn’t give One Billion Dollars to Ukraine unless they ‘got rid of the Prosecutor.’ Biden is a Stone Cold Crook-You don’t need a long INQUIRY to prove it, it’s already proven. These lowlifes Impeached me TWICE (I WON!), and Indicted me FOUR TIMES - For NOTHING! Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US!”
Trump’s eagerness is not his alone with many other Republicans within Congress and outside of it pushing for more than just a simple inquiry into Biden. The president has seen massive allegations against him with bribery scandals adding up to over $20 million from foreign sources, per the DC Enquirer, garnering questions on whether he is compromised.
And throughout, the response from the Biden administration has been to ignore and deflect. No solid response has been provided from the president and his team to serious allegations besides simple statements denying claims that have notable evidence backing them.
With everything swirling around the president, something needs to be done. Whether it’s the full-on impeachment that Trump is calling for or only an inquiry, Congress needs to make a move. The inaction from Republicans in the legislature will only hurt the party and allow Biden to get away with major illegal actions. There cannot be two standards of justice in this country.
