WATCH: DeSantis Clears The Air On Potential Pardon Of Trump If Elected President During Megyn Kelly Interview

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said in an interview with Megyn Kelly that if he was elected to the Oval Office and Trump was found guilty of his indictment charges, he would likely pardon the former president.

Kelly hit DeSantis with the question extremely straightforwardly, asking, “Would you commit pardoning [Trump] on any federal charges against him?” As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Trump is currently facing numerous charges against him for alleged documents being held in his Mar-a-Lago estate, with three more charges being added on Thursday.

“Well, what I’ve said is very simple. I’m gonna do what is right for the country. I don’t think it’d be good for the country to have an almost 80-year-old former president go to prison,” the Sunshine State governor said in response. “It just doesn’t seem like it would be a good thing and I look like Ford pardoned Nixon. Took some heat for it, but at the end of the day it’s like, do we want to move forward as a country or do we want to be mired in these past controversies?”

Trump is set to fight his legal battle in court on May 20th, 2024, a date agreed on between the requested December 11th date of the Biden administration and the legal team behind Trump asking for a later date, as previously covered by the DC Enquirer

While Democrats and critics of DeSantis may look at his answer as negative, what he said is very much the truth. In the same way that Ford pardoned Nixon, in the case that any former president was to receive federal charges against them, it’s the right thing to do. Of course, there are some exceptions to that case like a violent crime, but anything like what Trump is being indicted for would warrant a pardon.

Of course, Trump has yet to plead guilty to anything nor has DeSantis made it to the Oval Office, so until then the hypothetical in question remains unseen. Of course, it’s still good to know where DeSantis stands on the issue because the Biden Department of Justice may do everything in its power to defame Trump during the 2024 election.
