Democrat Rep Suggests Biden Should Resign From Office, Fears 'Unelected Advisors' Are Making Decisions For Him

Despite President Joe Biden's best attempts at assuring Democrats that he will be staying in the presidential race following his disastrous debate performance last month, Democrats aren't convinced that the 81-year-old president has the stamina or the mental acuity to run a successful re-election campaign to defeat Donald Trump. This lack of confidence has led over a dozen elected Democrats to demand Biden step aside, with the latest representative suggesting that Biden resigns from the presidency altogether.

Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) said in a statement on Thursday that President Biden she believes that the president isn't making the major decisions in the White House, but instead, those decisions are being made by "unelected advisors" who have been hiding his condition from the public.

"I doubt the President's judgment about his health, his fitness to do the job, and whether he is the one making important decisions about our country, rather than unelected advisors," the congresswoman said in a statement, per KGW8. "Americans deserve to feel their president is fit enough to do the job. The crisis of confidence in the President's leadership needs to come to an end. The President should do what he knows is right for the country and put the national interest first."

The Washington Democrat's comments come after over a dozen other congressional Democrats have called on the president to step aside, including Reps. Greg Stanton (D-AZ), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Mark Takano (D-CA), Ed Case (D-HI), Mike Quigley (D-IL), Bradley Scott Schneider (D-IL), Seth Moulton (D-MA), Hillary J. Scholten (D-MI), Angie Craig (D-MN), Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), Patrick Ryan (D-NY), Earl Blumeanauer (D-OR), Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), and Adam Smith (D-WA).

After both House Democrats and Senate Democrats held meetings in Washington, D.C., to discuss the party's future and whether President Biden can remain at the top of the ticket, more and more lawmakers have begun to come out against the president. In a last-ditch effort to save his candidacy, President Biden will be conducting a press conference on Thursday evening following the conclusion of the NATO conference to show his fellow Democrats that he is up to the job.

The press conference, perhaps the most important event in Biden's political career, will determine whether more Democrats will come out against the president or if they will close ranks to attempt to get him across the finish line in November.
