On Wednesday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son to the late and famous presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy who was assassinated in 1968, officially announced his candidacy for the Democrat nomination for President of the United States.
Kennedy Jr. made his announcement from Boston and hosted a Twitter Space as well to make his run official.
The 69-year-old is the second Democrat to announce a run in opposition to Biden with Marianne Williamson announcing her candidacy last month.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Kennedy Jr. is actually polling somewhat well for a man who is only just now beginning to campaign.
According to a recent Morning Consult poll, Kennedy has 10 percent support from Democrats while Biden has 70 percent. However, amongst 65+ Kennedy Jr. has 17 percent support amongst Democrat voters.
In addition a USA Today/Suffolk University poll found that Kennedy enjoys 14 percent support from voters, as reported by The Hill. With a substantial amount of support for a candidate who has yet to actually start running against Biden, he could be seen on the debate stage this fall.
“Our country is at a crucial crossroads and true leaders rise to meet that moment,” a speaker said in preparation for Kennedy’s speech while appealing to President John Kennedy’s presidency and Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 candidacy.
