During a National Guard Association event in Detroit on Monday, former Hawaii representative and Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard (I-HI) announced her endorsement of President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race. Gabbard, a congressional Democrat from Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021 and former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, recently left the Democratic Party in 2022, explaining that the party is run by "warmongers."
In her speech announcing her endorsement, Gabbard explained that she supported President Trump, given his foreign policy record of bringing stability to the world. "I am committed to doing all that I can to send President Trump back to the White House," she said. "Because I am confident that his first task will be to do the work to walk us back from the brink of war. We cannot be prosperous unless we are at peace."
Gabbard joined Trump during his visit to the Arlington National Cemetary on Monday morning to honor the 13 service members who were killed at Abbey Gate during the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan three years ago. "I can tell you as we were there, as he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, joining these Marines' loved ones, I felt the sorrow that he shared with them in their loss. I felt and saw his sincere appreciation for these service men and women who paid the ultimate price and their loved ones who continue to grieve to this day. This is personal to me," Gabbard said.
Gabbard's announcement comes after independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. exited the presidential race in the critical swing states and endorsed Trump for president last week.
