On Friday, a man lit himself on fire outside the courthouse in New York City where President Donald Trump's trial is ongoing. The man set himself ablaze with gasoline at around 1:35 p.m. acrosss the street from the courthouse in Collect Pond Park. He was seen kneeling with his hands on his head. Several bystanders attempted to put out the flames but were unable to get close due to the heat. NYPD officers arrived after a few minutes to the scene and were able to smother the flames.
A Fox News reporter explained that the flames reached 20 feet in the air. Paramedics rushed to the scene to care for the man, who was seemingly still alive, with the Fox journalist explaining that the unidentified man was still moving his arms while being treated. The man was put into an ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital.
As of this report, the unidentified man's motivation for self-immolating has yet to be revealed. The man reportedly threw pamphlets into the air before igniting the accelerant. The incident is the second self-immolation in recent months after Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old serviceman in the Air Force, lit himself on fire outside the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C., to protest the war in Gaza.
