BREAKING: Longtime Former Republican Senator Dead At 89

On Tuesday, former Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) passed away at the age of 89, according to sources familiar with his family. Inhofe had a lengthy career serving the country in various government posts, ultimately retiring from the Senate in 2023.

Senator Inhofe, an Army veteran who served the country for three years in the 1950s, was the longest-serving senator from Oklahoma, serving in the upper chamber from 1994 to 2023. Before his election to the Senate, Inhofe served in the House of Representatives from 1987 to 1994 and was the Mayor of Tulsa from 1978 to 1984. Inhofe also served in the Oklahoma State House and the State Senate before being elected mayor of Tulsa.

Messages of condulences quickly began to be issued with Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) writing, "Sad to learn of the passing of my friend Sen Jim Inhofe who was born in Iowa I enjoyed working w him for 30yrs Oklahoma was well represented by Jim He was a principled fighter & gr8 partner in joint congressional oversight efforts Barbara & I are praying for his family."

"Jim Inhofe was a kind and decent man who dedicated his life, both in the military and public office, to serving this great country," Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) posted to X. "May his memory be a blessing to his family and the entire state of Oklahoma."

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) praised the former senator for his service to upholding freedom, writing, "Jim Inhofe was an exceptional warrior for freedom, an icon of the Senate, and a steadfast voice for the people of Oklahoma and patriots everywhere. May God bless his family, and may we all treasure his legacy."
