BREAKING: House Takes Vote On Impeachment Of Department Of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives voted against impeaching Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after a handful of Republicans joined with Democrats to defeat the motion 214-216. The impeachment failure is a major blow to GOP House leadership who have attempted to hold Mayorkas accountable for the open border policies of the Biden administration.

The impeachment articles accused Mayorkas of refusing "to comply with Federal immigration law" and breaching public trust. The Republican who voted against the measure include Reps. Ken Buck (R-CO), Mike Gallagher (R-WI), and Tom McClintock (R-CA). House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) was not present to vote given his ongoing cancer treatments. Had the resolution passed, Mayorkas would have been the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached since 1876.

While the House rejected the resolution, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) revealed that Republican could have another shot at impeaching the DHS secretary. "Impeachment vote on Mayorkas will be brought back to the floor next week. Moore voted no so that it could be reconsidered next week," she wrote in reference to House GOP Vice Chairman Blake Moore (R-UT). "It’s a procedural maneuver so it’ll pass next week (pending votes)."
