On Friday, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia upheld conservative commentator and former Trump advisor Steve Bannon's conviction for two counts of contempt of Congress. Bannon has been attempting to fight the four-month prison sentence he received after being convicted in 2022; however, the Court of Appeals ruling on Friday will result in the 70-year-old heading to jail amid the presidential election.
Bannon, who still actively advises 45th President Donald Trump, will now have the option to appeal to the Supreme Court or ask for a review from the entire D.C. Circuit Court rather than just a three-judge panel. The ruling from the D.C. judges indicated that Bannon has seven days to appeal the decision.
Like former White House trade advisor Peter Navarro, Bannon was found guilty of disobeying a congressional subpoena from the House Select Committee on the January 6th Capitol Riot by claiming he had executive privilege. Navarro is currently serving his four-month sentence in Florida.
