On Monday evening, Iowans packed into crowded gyms, private homes, and various other venues to participate in the highly anticipated Iowa Caucus, the first 2024 presidential contest of the year. The caucus results were dominated by leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump who has been the favorite throughout the race. His dominance prompted not only businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (R-OH) to drop out of the race but former Gov. Asa Hutchinson to drop out as well on Tuesday morning.
With all caucusgoers counted, Trump secured 51 percent of the vote while Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) came in second with 21.2 percent and former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) came in third with 19.1 percent. Ramaswamy was only able to win 7.7 percent support and Hutchinson only won 0.2 percent, or 191 votes.
"I stand by the campaign I ran," Hutchinson said in a statement. "I answered every question, sounded the warning to the GOP about the risks in 2024 and presented hope for our country's future."
