On Wednesday, Twitter owner Elon Musk invited former CNN anchor Don Lemon to start a show on Twitter -- following Tucker Carlson's blockbuster announcement that he would be doing the same.
"Have you considered doing your show on this platform? Maybe worth a try. Audience is much bigger," Musk tweeted.
"The best you can hope for in the news business at this point is the freedom to tell the fullest truth that you can. But there are always limits and you know that if you bump up against those limits often enough, you will be fired for it... That's not a guess, that's a guarantee," Carlson said in a Tuesday video. "Twitter has long served as the place where our national conversation incubates and develops. Twitter is not a partisan site. Everybody is allowed here. And we think that is a good thing."
Musk assured Twitter users that he had reached no agreement with Tucker, and he would be liable to the same rules as other content creators.
"I also want to be clear that we have not signed a deal of any kind whatsoever. Tucker is subject to the same rules & rewards of all content creators," Musk tweeted.
In turn, Musk was replying to an April tweet from Don Lemon following his departure from CNN, in which he said, "I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN,” Lemon wrote on Twitter. "I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best.”
