Armed Florida Dad Rushes to His Daughter’s Rescue When Abusive Ex-Boyfriend Arrives

A domestic violence incident led a father to his daughter’s apartment in Gainesville, Florida. The young woman had been allegedly assaulted and the father was armed when her abusive ex-boyfriend returned, according to police.

The Gainesville Police wrote in a statement posted to Facebook, “Earlier in the evening, GPD responded to a domestic battery. The suspect was inside an ex-girlfriend’s apartment and physically assaulted her. He fled the area prior to our arrival. The victim’s father also responded.”

The police departed and left the father consoling his daughter. But about 30 minutes later, the situation went from bad to worse.

The police explained, “the suspect returned and made entry into her apartment. The father, who was armed with a handgun, fired one shot at the suspect which struck him in the chest.”

The suspect fled and was later located by police fatally wounded near his vehicle. The man was declared dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel despite life-saving measures being taken to stabilize him, the authorities said.

Law enforcement officials told Fox News that the investigation is ongoing. Reportedly residents of the apartment complex, known as the Polos, located near the University of Florida campus were stunned.

Resident Dalton Graham told local reporters that the area is typically considered safe. “I thought that you had the wrong Polos or something,” he told Fox35 WCJB Orlando. “I have nothing but good things to say about the university and the city in general, and especially the Polos Apartments. Never really had anything like this, so it was pretty shocking.”
