Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said this week that Republicans are pushing conspiracy theories about her Tuesday arrest, which occurred during a pro-abortion protest staged in Washington D.C.
“Republicans’ favorite hobby is to make conspiracy theories out of everything to distract you and keep you from talking about what’s actually important, which is the fact that they are trying to take away your right to bodily autonomy,” she said in a video posted to her Instagram account.
“If I was faking that, why would I intentionally fist pump somebody? It’s so silly,” she added, smiling at the camera.

In the video AOC referenced of her arrest, the New York Democrat can be seen holding her hands behind her back for an extended period of time — despite not being handcuffed.
For context, she and 16 other House Democrats were arrested for blocking traffic to protest the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision which returned the question of abortion back to the individual states.
The lawmakers only face a $50 fine if they do not opt for a hearing, The New York Post reported.
AOC claims Republicans are being uncharitable with the video evidence, where she can be seen fist-pumping the crowd of protestors.

This is not the first time AOC has addressed the controversy. AOC replied to Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC), on Twitter, who called out AOC for the stunt — claiming it was indicative of her “performance, not policy” approach to politics.

AOC’s real intentions are known only to God, but in any event, Republicans are not conspiracy theorists for interpreting the video evidence in the way they did.
Her counter reply was even more uncharitable, perhaps more so than any Republican replies she was forced to address. This is the face of the new Democratic Party. All flash, no substance.
