On Friday, a fugitive, Qwinntavus Kwame Jordan, entered a convenience store after a prolonged pursuit across state lines in an attempt to hold the convenience store clerk and a customer hostage. The clerk, however, had other plans.
Jordan, who was on the run from the police after a warrant for his arrest was issued on April 27th for armed robbery, was alluding the police in a high-speed chase in northern Florida.
While in Florida, the Florida Highway Patrol, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office were all in pursuit until the suspect crossed state lines.
Upon entering Georgia, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit of the suspect while the Kingsland Police Department laid out “stop sticks” to halt the vehicle in its tracks, as reported by the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
The police were successful in stopping the vehicle, however, Jordan fled on foot and entered a nearby convenience store where he held the clerk at gunpoint and demanded his car keys.
Upon handing over the keys to the robber, the clerk armed himself while Jordan fled the store. However, the thief ended up driving through the store’s entrance leading to him exiting the vehicle and attempting to take the clerk and a customer hostage.
This didn’t go according to Jordan’s plan however because the clerk shot Jordan eight times according to authorities.
Following this, Jordan was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
“I commend our Real Time Crime Center team for quickly developing suspect information and his vehicle and thank all the agencies that assisted in apprehending this armed and dangerous fugitive,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly in a Facebook post.
“I also commend the Georgia store clerk that put a swift end to this dirtbag’s crime spree,” he added. “If he survives his injuries, he should spend a long time in prison.”
